Cos’è successo a Pentedattilo film Festival 2017?

Al Pentedattilo Film Festival hanno vinto tutti. Ha vinto la Regione Calabria per aver patrocinato un evento che ogni anno si impegna a promuovere il cinema e la cultura in una terra bellissima e difficile come il Sud-Italia. Hanno vinto gli organizzatori, Emanuele e Maria Milasi, Americo Melchionda, Alessia Rotondo e Maria Piccolo che sono riusciti in 5 giorni a riunire una grande parte di mondo in un piccolo borgo nei pressi della costa Jonica calabrese. Hanno vinto gli artisti che hanno potuto, nelle piccole case di Pentedattilo adibite a sale proiezioni, vedere e vedersi mentre i loro film intrattenevano decine di spettatori. E hanno vinto anche quest’ultimi perché hanno potuto immergersi nelle storie, nei sogni, nelle promesse, nelle proposte e nelle fantasie di registi, attori e produttori. Se dovessimo riassumere il Pentedattilo Film Festival in una parola certamente sarebbe vittoria.

Romanticismo (giustificato) a parte per dovere di cronaca dobbiamo riportare nomi e cognomi di quelle persone che hanno reso il festival possibile. Iniziando dalla giuria di “Territorio in Movimento” composta da Basil Khalil, Suranga D. Katugampala e Daniel Chan i quali hanno dichiarato vincitori ex aequo Watu Wote di Katjia Benrath e Belle Ville di Jung Won-hee; le menzioni speciali invece sono andate a Touch di Noel Harris e Fantasia di Temu Nikki. La giuria della sezione animazione, composta dal regista Marino Guarnieri (regista di Gatta Cenerentola), Éva Katinka Bognár animatrice, illustratrice e insegnante al MOME di Budapest, e il regista Tino Franco, ha premiato il bellissimo Catherine di Britt Raes mentre due menzioni speciali sono andate a And the moon stands still di Yulia Ruditskaya e Panick Attack di Eileen O’Meara. Erano presenti anche registi, produttori e attori di altri corti in concorso come Shanu Sharma con Asylum Park, Leonie Rainer l’attrice protagonista di Aloha, Gabriele Galli regista de La Quiete e il team creativo al completo di Waltzing Tilda Jonathan Wilhelmsson, Ellen Johansson e Raquel Linde.

Abbiamo avuto l’onore di assegnare il premio della critica Birdmen rispettivamente a Limbo di Konstantina Kotzamani per il Live-Action e a Confino di Nico Bonomolo per l’animazione. I premi sono stati confezionati, per l’occasione, dall’artista pavese IUCU (al quale va un grazie speciale): sono, perciò, pezzi unici dal grande valore. 

Non sono mancati ospiti d’eccezione: oltre ai già citati Marino Guarnieri e Éva Katinka Bognár (che hanno tenuto dei rispettivi workshop sull’animazione), Basil Khalil e Daniel Chan (che hanno tenuto una lectio su come arrivare agli Oscar) sono stati presenti anche registi e produttori di film fuori concorso come Sara Grimaldi e il suo Le retour du Train, Migdia Chinea con The Prince of Old Havana, Robert Shupe con Pastel, Chingya Wan con Another Girl e Cristian Bota e il suo Karmasutra. O ancora Fabio Orlando con la sua mostra fotografica “Piovuti dal mare” nel quale ha raccontato con le sue foto i migranti approdati sulle nostre coste.

In tutto questo Birdmen ha avuto l’onore di essere un media partner di eccezione assistendo in prima fila allo svolgimento del festival e contribuendo attivamente con le recensioni dei corti in concorso. Un onore e un impegno che non vediamo l’ora di rinnovare il prossimo agosto alla 12esima edizione del festival.

Everyone has won at the Pentedattilo Film Festival. The Region of Calabria has won for sponsoring an event that every year promotes cinema and culture in a beautiful and difficult land such as the South of Italy. The organizers have won, Emanuele and Maria Milasi, Americo Melchionda, Alessia Rotondo and Maria Piccolo who have managed to unite a large part of the world in a small village of the Jonic shore for 5 days. The artists have won who were able, in the small houses of Pentedattilo re-arranged as projection rooms, to see and see each other while their films enchanted dozens of spectators. And the latter also won clearly for they were able to immerse themselves in the stories, dreams, promises, proposals and fantasies of directors, actors, and producers. If we were to summarize the Pentedattilo Film Festival in one word it would certainly be victory.

Romanticism (justified) aside we must for the record report the names of those people who made the festival possible. Starting from the jury of the “Territorio in movimento” composed by Basil Khalil, Suranga D. Katugampala and Daniel Chan who declared winners ex aequo Watu Wote by Katjia Benrath and Belle Ville by Jung Won-hee; the special mentions went to Touch by Noel Harris and Fantasia by Temu Nikki. The jury of the animation section, composed by the director Marino Guarnieri (director of Cinderella the cat), Éva Katinka Bognár animator, illustrator and teacher at the MOME in Budapest, and the director Tino Franco, has rewarded the beautiful “Catherine” of Britt Raes while two special mentions were assigned to “And the moon stands still” by Yulia Ruditskaya and Panick Attack by Eileen O’Meara. We were honoured to assign the two Birdmen jury awards to Konstantina Kotzamani’s Limbo for Live-Action and to Confino of Nico Bonomolo for animation. There were also directors, producers and actors of other shorts in competition such as Shanu Sharma with Asylum Park, Leonie Rainer the actress protagonist of Aloha, Gabriele Galli director of La Quiete and the creative team of Waltzing Tilda Jonathan Wilhelmsson, Ellen Johansson and Raquel Linde.

There was no shortage of special guests: in addition to the Marino Guarnieri and Éva Katinka Bognár (who held their own workshops on animation), Basil Khalil and Daniel Chan (who held a lectio on how to get to the Oscars) were also present directors and producers of films out of competition such as Sara Grimaldi and her “Le retour du Train”, Migdia Chinea with The Prince of Old Havana, Robert Shupe with Pastel, Chingya Wan with Another Girl and Cristian Bota and hir Karmasutra. Or again Fabio Orlando with his photographic exhibition “Piovuti dal mare” in which he told with his photos the migrants who came to italian shores.

In all this Birdmen has had the honour of being an exceptional media partner assisting in the front row of the festival and actively contributing to the reviews of the courts in competition. An honor and a commitment that we are looking forward to renew next August at the 12th edition of the festival.
