Per quest’edizione, Birdmen è media-partner del Pentedattilo film Festival, il festival internazionale di cortometraggi che si svolge a Pentedattilo (Reggio Calabria) dal 7 all’11 dicembre. Ecco le nostre recensioni in anteprima. La Redazione, inoltre, assegnerà il Premio speciale Birdmen al miglior cortometraggio d’animazione e al miglior cortometraggio live action.

Luscious è un inno alla perdizione che si nasconde dietro il velo di una divertita ingenuità; con un ammiccamento istantaneo, parla a un substrato di coscienza tramite il cliché della donna che, esibendo un’eleganza annoiata, sbocconcella da un prelibato piatto di pesce.

Il corto (cortissimo) animato di Amber Xu si colloca sulla scia di una sfarzosa Cafè Society, memore però della tradizione orientale e un po’ manieristica che ritrae le geishe come porte d’ingresso alla verità sensoriale. Nella monotonia della modernità, che priva anche dell’istantaneo piacere della degustazione, la goccia di colore rosso è il vino che ottunde le percezioni, e non solo: è il salto nel vuoto che le libera radicalmente.

Comincia il viaggio psichedelico, retoricamente rappresentato come una caduta verso il basso, e il regista non ci risparmia niente: tra mandala eccentrici e tentacoli di pesce, non è così impensabile intravedere i funghi delle allucinazioni, labbra carnose e pezzi di carne vera che diventano vulve, e su tutto, gambe di donne e gocce di rosso, rosso vino, rosso sangue.

E’ una lussuria ridondante e stucchevole, ma forse paga un giusto tributo d’attenzione alla donna come soggetto attivo di piacere.

Luscious is an hymn to perdition, hiding behind an amused veil of ignorance; in the blink of an eye, the movie appeals to a deep level of consciousness through a clichè: a woman, showing a sort of bored elegance, nibbles at a dish of exquisite fish.

The (very) short animated movie directed by Amber Xu places itself between an opulent Cafè Society and the eastern tradition which, in a manneristic way, represents geisha as gates to the truth of senses. In our tedious modern lives, having lost also the instantaneous pleasure of tasting, the red drop represents the wine dulling our perceptions, and something more: while we are falling to the ground, all our feelings are immediately free.

When the psychedelic journey begins, nothing is spared: we witness eccentric mandala and octopus’ tentacles, magic mushrooms, full lips, pieces of meat turning into vulva and, above all, women’s legs and drops of red, red wine, red blood.

Such lust may eventually get redundant and sickening, but it is worthwhile to pay a tribute to women as active subjects of pleasure.
