Per quest’edizione, Birdmen è media-partner del Pentedattilo Film Festival, il festival internazionale di cortometraggi che si svolge a Pentedattilo (Reggio Calabria) dal 7 all’11 dicembre. Ecco le nostre recensioni in anteprima. La Redazione, inoltre assegnerà il Premio speciale Birdmen al miglior cortometraggio d’animazione e al miglior cortometraggio live action.

Recall (Záridő in originale, 2017), produzione ungherese che segna l’esordio alla regia di Dániel Reich, che del corto è anche sceneggiatore, è fin da subito un viaggio onirico anche se, a tratti, verosimile: nel bel mezzo degli anni ’80 un ragazzo, Beni, va in vacanza al lago con la madre e la sorella. Poco dopo l’arrivo, guidato dal suo cane all’interno di un vecchio capanno, rinviene una vecchia macchina fotografica. Con questa, comincia a immortalare i momenti più importanti dela vacanza. Proprio in occasione di una delle tante istantanee, sua sorella, che si era prestata a modella, scompare nel nulla sotto i suoi occhi. Beni inizia subito le ricerche insieme ad un investigatore, ma quello che scopriranno sarà assolutamente incredibile, complice il ritrovamento iniziale di Beni.
Reich alla sua prima prova allestisce un magnifico collage di immagini (e qui vengono fuori sia la sua formazione come direttore della fotografia sia la sua precisione tecnica), incorniciato fra una trama a tratti prevedibile e un cast non sempre impeccabile. Il collage restituisce comunque un potente affresco naturalistico condito da un lieve tocco di Sci-Fi, grazie soprattutto all’uso della luce e dei colori, studiati al dettaglio. Un lavoro già selezionato in numerosi festival internazionali, nei quali ha anche raccolto un paio di premi come miglior regista (Firenze FilmCorti Festival 2017) e come miglior cortometraggio internazionale (Madeira Fantastic Filmfest).

Recall (Záridő, 2017), is a Hungarian production which represents the directorial debut of Dániel Reich, who is also the screenwriter of the short film. The movie is immediately a dreamlike journey even if, at times, likely: in the middle of the 80s a boy, Beni, goes on vacation to the lake with his mother and sister. Shortly after arriving, guided by his dog inside an old shed, he finds an old camera, with which he begins to capture the most important moments of the holiday. Just on the occasion of one of the many snapshots, her sister, who had lent herself to a model, disappears into thin air. Beni immediately starts looking for her together with an investigator, but what they discover will be absolutely incredible, also because of the found camera.
For his first movie Reich prepares a magnificent collage of images (and here comes out both his training as a director of photography and his technical precision), framed between a sometimes-predictable plot and a cast that is not always impeccable. The collage, however, returns a powerful natural fresco seasoned by a slight touch of Sci-Fi, thanks above all to the use of light and colors, studied in detail. Recall is a work already selected in other international festivals, in which it also collected some awards as best director (Firenze FilmCorti Festival 2017) and as best international short film (Madeira Fantastic Filmfest).
