#PFF17 • A casa mia

Per quest’edizione, Birdmen è media-partner del Pentedattilo film Festival, il festival internazionale di cortometraggi che si svolge a Pentedattilo (Reggio Calabria) dal 7 all’11 dicembre. Ecco le nostre recensioni in anteprima. La Redazione, inoltre, assegnerà il Premio speciale Birdmen al miglior cortometraggio d’animazione e al miglior cortometraggio live action.

Il regista si chiama Mario Piredda, viene da Sassari e reca con sé il suono del mare. Mario ha una storia da raccontare, una storia nascosta nelle nicchie di una casa in Sardegna sulla spiaggia. Una storia di tempo e stagioni, di figli e generazioni, una storia che non si può raccontare con i dialoghi ma solo con le sonorità della lingua sarda che accomuna i protagonisti. Che bello (e che strano) guardare un film, anche di breve metratura, sapendo che è in una lingua ufficiale del tuo paese senza che tu riesca a comprenderla. E che strano (e che bello) che a salvarti ci siano i sottotitoli in un neutralissimo inglese che rendono comprensibile (ma sempre fino a un certo punto) i dialoghi dei protagonisti. Ma chi sono i protagonisti? Verrebbe da dire Lucia e Peppino, gli unici abitanti di un paese ormai spopolato di pescatori. O forse il mare che grazie al lavoro di presa diretta di Piero Fancellu è l’unica costante rassicurante in una vicenda dove persino i figli minano la tranquillità di un’esistenza placida. Difficile dirlo, quello che è certo è che “A casa mia” è un piccolo gioiello di malinconia che cela in sé un urlo di roboante rancore. Ma la sua grandezza non può essere recepita appieno senza i sottotitoli: e no, non sto parlando delle difficoltà che comporta il sardo, comunque non insormontabili almeno per gli italiani, ma della parola “casa” che in inglese è tradotta come house e non come home. All’inizio mi ero chiesto come mai un film così intimista avesse scelto la prima traduzione invece della seconda ma giunto alla fine anch’io ho dovuto convenire che house fosse la scelta giusta. Meno male che c’erano i sottotitoli.

The director’s name is Mario Piredda, he comes from Sassari and brings with him the sound of the sea. Mario has a story to tell, a story hidden in the niches of a house on the beach in Sardinia. A story of time and seasons, of children and generations, a story that cannot be told with standard dialogues but only with the sonorities of Sardinian language which protagonists share. How beautiful (and how strange) is to watch a short film, knowing that it’s in an official language of your country without you being able to understand it. And what a strange thing (and how beautiful) is that to save you there were subtitles in a neutral English that make the dialogues of the protagonists understandable (but always to a certain extent). But who are the protagonists? It would be Lucia and Peppino, the only inhabitants of a country now depopulated by fishermen. Or maybe the sea that thanks to the work of direct recording of Piero Fancellu is the only reassuring constant in a story where even the children undermine the tranquility of a placid existence. Hard to say, what is certain is that “At Home” is a little jewel of melancholy which hides in itself a screaming grungy rancor. But its greatness cannot be fully transposed without the subtitles: and no, I’m not talking about the difficulties that involves the Sardinian language, never insurmountable for Italians, but of the word “casa” which in English is translated as a “house” and not as “home”. At first I wondered why such an intimist movie had chosen the former translation instead of the latter but eventually I came to the conclusion that “house” was the right choice. Luckily there were subtitles.
