Per quest’edizione, Birdmen è media-partner del Pentedattilo film Festival, il festival internazionale di cortometraggi che si svolge a Pentedattilo (Reggio Calabria) dal 7 all’11 dicembre. Ecco le nostre recensioni in anteprima. La Redazione, inoltre, assegnerà il Premio speciale Birdmen al miglior cortometraggio d’animazione e al miglior cortometraggio live action.

“Per una volta possiamo mangiare qualcosa di diverso dalle patate?”
La voglia di pizza e i campi lunghi sulla campagna incontaminata della Finlandia sono la firma di Fantasia (2016), il cortometraggio di Teemu Nikki in concorso all’11° Pentedattilo film Festival, in Calabria. Teemu Nikki, classe 1975, è un regista autodidatta proveniente da una famiglia di contadini di Sysmä, in Finlandia. Negli anni ha diretto decine di cortometraggi e centinaia di spot e video musicali, oltre a diversi lungometraggi e tele-film. Teemu è un regista senza generi, un narratore entusiasta e genuino. Il suo lavoro è stato selezionato e premiato, ad esempio, al Sundance film Festival, al Seattle international film Festival ed al concorso per giovani registi di Cannes.
Ambientato nei presso di Sysmä, in Finlandia, nell’autunno del 1989, Fantasia è probabilmente una sorta di rivisitiazione auto-biografica, in chiave comica, della “triste vita culinaria” del regista durante la sua gioventù. Il protagonista, infatti, proveniente da una povera famiglia di contadini, è “perseguitato”, pranzo e cena, dalla monotonia del tubero per eccellenza: la pomme de terre.
Otto minuti d’avventura e perfetti tempi scenici, fra campi lunghi ed un montaggio a volte anche efficacemente serrato, per questo giovane finlandese che fa di tutto per poter mangiare una pizza insieme alla sua famiglia. Un breve viaggio sfortunato che suscita più di qualche sorriso, rasentando spesso la risata. Un’opera ironica, che intrattiene, pur mantenendo un’ottima cifra tecnica nella realizzazione.

Here is a preview of our reviews. Furthermore, we will assign a special Birdmen award to the best animation short-film and to the best live action short-film.

“For once couldn’t we eat something different from potatoes?”
Craving for pizza and long shots of the pristine countryside of Finland is the signature of Fantasia (2016), a short-film by Teemu Nikki in competition for the 11th Pentedattilo film Festival, in Calabria. Teemu Nikki, born in 1975, is a self-taught film director belonging to a family of peasants in Sysmä, Finland. He has directed dozens of short-films and hundreds of spots and music videos, besides various feature films and TV series. Teemu is a film director without genre, a genuine and enthusiastic narrator. His work was selected and awarded, for example, at the Sundance film Festival, at the Seattle International film Festival and at the competition for young directors in Cannes.
Set near Sysmä, in Finland, in the autumn of 1989, Fantasia is probably a sort of autobiographical revision, in a comic interpretation, of the “sad culinary life” of the film director during his youth. The protagonist, belonging to a poor family of peasants, is “persecuted”, during lunch and dinner, by the monotony of the most famous among tubers: the potato.
Perfect scene timing, long shots and an effectively tight film editing accompany, during these eight minutes of adventures, this young Finnish boy who absolutely wants to eat a pizza with his family. A short unlucky trip that arouses more than a smile, sometimes a laugh. An ironic film that entertains while maintaining a great technical level.
