Per quest’edizione, Birdmen è media-partner del Pentedattilo film Festival, il festival internazionale di cortometraggi che si svolge a Pentedattilo (Reggio Calabria) dal 7 all’11 dicembre. Ecco le nostre recensioni in anteprima. La Redazione, inoltre, assegnerà il Premio speciale Birdmen al miglior cortometraggio d’animazione e al miglior cortometraggio live action.

Boyko ama il calcio. Visceralmente. Ogni giorno si trova con gli amici durante l’ora di punta per giocare nel parco del quartiere. Un solo problema, il pallone. Non basta più quello preso alla bottega (di finto cuoio, che rimbalza male): tutti desiderano Brazuca, il pallone ufficiale dei mondiali brasiliani. Cosa farebbe Boyko per ottenerlo?
Brazuca di Faidon Gkretsikos è un cortometraggio molto equilibrato: la prevedibilità della fabula (una certa corrispondenza fra aspettativa e diegesi) rispetta delle chiare coordinate di genere, avendo sempre bene in mente una certa volontà di intrattenimento. L’inquadratura segue la giornata del protagonista, posto sempre al centro. Una sola volta il suo primato è messo in dubbio, quando in primo piano compare Brazuca: ecco che la regia dichiara la presenza di una key scene.
Un’altra particolarità, la grammatica del corto è popolare: la famiglia del protagonista non sembra benestante, ma la sceneggiatura, con buoni espedienti, riesce nell’intento di spingere lo spettatore a patteggiare per il bambino, nonostante alcune sue strategie poco educative.
Non stupisce, secondo quanto detto, il grande successo del cortometraggio alla sezione Cine Educational (del Pentedattilo film Festival), la quale anticipa di qualche giorno l’inizio del festival ed è dedicata interamente alle scuole, sul tema del radicamento territoriale.

Boyko loves football. Viscerally. Every day he meets his friends to play in the neighborhood playground. There is only one problem: the ball. The fake-leather, badly-bouncing one he bought at the store is not adequate anymore: what the children want now is Brazuca, the official Brazilian world cup ball. What is Boyko ready to do in order to get it?
Brazuca, by Faidon Gkretsikos, is a very balanced short-film: the fabula predicatbility (i.e., a certain level of correspondence between expectation and diegesis) conforms to clear genre coordinates, always keeping in mind its entertaining aim. The frame follows the day of the protagonist, who is always at the centre of the scene. His prominent position is challenged only once, when Brazuca appears in the foreground: this is how the director signals the presence of a key scene.
Another peculiarity of this short-film is its popular grammar: the protagonist’s family is not wealthy, but the screenplay succeeds, with some very good devices, in pushing the spectator to negotiate with the child, despite some pretty un-educational strategies.
With this said, the great success of this short-film at the Cine Educational Pentadattilo FF section does not come as a surprise. Cine Educational anticipates the rest of the festival of a few days and is entirely devoted to schools, with particular attention paid to the theme of territorial anchorage.
